Round Table Conference “活力新城乡 生活新道场 (Lively New Towns and Villages, A New Way of Life)“

On May 22, 2021, Antonie Angerer was invited to speak at the round table conference “Lively New Towns and Villages, A New Way of Life” organized by the China Urban Planning Institute, Yangtze River Delta Department of Tourism and Culture. In a group of experts and local government officials, the China Urban Planning Institute invited for a discussion to analyze the potential of culture and art in rural revitalization processes. For the round table conference in Huzhou different actors were invited to introduce initiatives that use art to revitalize, archive or reflect on China´s cities and villages. Culture and art were discussed as catalysators for tourism, as well as creating incentives for city population moving to or village population staying in the countryside.
Antonie Angerer, currently Praedoc in the “Social Worlds: China´s cities as spaces of worldmaking” and independent curator, was giving an insight into her curatorial practice and current research. She introduced the long-term curatorial project Beijing22, that is documenting the impact of Beijing´s transformation on the social and cultural spaces in collaboration with artists. She introduced several art practices in the city and their function in community building, documenting changing neighborhoods and imagining possibilities of urban futures. She also introduced the project “Social Worlds: China’s cities as spaces of worldmaking” and her current academic research into networked spectacle of China’s future cities.
