On Ghosts, Queerness and Patriarchy – Reading and Discussion of "Geisterdämmerung" by author Kevin Chen and translator Monika Li

Having served a long sentence in a prison in Berlin for killing his husband, the young Taiwanese Tianhong returns to his native village in rural Taiwan. His return stirs up the living and the dead to tell stories of their lifes and entanglements in a world full of friendship and violence, desire and suppression, secrets and exposures, tradition and change. The novel is a mosaic of rural and urban Taiwanese and German societies, of struggles and searches that reach across cultures and times.
