從全球視閾看“世界”的建構:對話中國

Exhibition Invitation: "Mightier than the Sword: Writing Freedom" as part of the event series 'From the will to freedom – China in a global context: contribution to the 2024 Science Year – Freedom.'

Oct 11, 2024 - Dec 19, 2024

You are cordially invited to the exhibition "Mightier than the Sword: Writing Freedom" as part of the event series FROM THE WILL TO FREEDOM – CHINA IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT: CONTRIBUTION TO THE 2024 SCIENCE YEAR – FREEDOM

This exhibition takes place within the framework of the 2024 Year of Science – Freedom, funded (Wissenschaftsjahres 2024 – Freiheit) by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and as part of the series "PERSPECTIVE: FREEDOM" by the Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities ("PERSPEKTIVE: FREIHEIT" der Union der deutschen Akademien der Wissenschaften statt). Under the leadership of Academy member Prof. Dr. Barbara Mittler, the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (the State Academy of Baden-Württemberg) is organizing a series of events titled "The Will to Freedom – China in a Global Context (Vom Willen zur Freiheit – China im globalen Kontext)",  which is also being held in cooperation with University of Heidelberg, the Confucius Institute based there, and the KlangForum Heidelberg.
The exhibition presents contemporary perspectives from artists of Chinese origin who draw on the potential of calligraphy and art. The exhibited works include painting, calligraphy, sculpture, photography, and video. They combine traditional elements—techniques, materials, and aesthetics—with contemporary concepts and media. Rich in tension, unorthodox, and humorous, they paint a vivid picture of contemporary art in China and the diaspora.

The exhibition will open on October 11, 2024 (vernissage) at the University Museum and the Betriebswerk Heidelberg and will be on display until December 19, 2024.

Locations: Old University, University Museum, Grabengasse 1 (entrance for the vernissage; on other days, access via Augustinergasse 2, 69117 Heidelberg), as well as Betriebswerk, Am Bahnbetriebswerk 5, 69115 Heidelberg.
Start: The vernissage will take place on October 11, 2024, at 4:30 PM at the University Museum and from 6:30 PM at the Betriebswerk.

Please note that the event will be in German.
