Michael Malzer has been a research assistant at the Department of Sinology at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg since 2018. He is a PhD candidate in the field of Contemporary Chinese Studies. His research focuses on urbanization and social change in the city of Yinchuan.

Since August 2024, he is the project coordinator of the worldmaking project.
