Open Call to Join Translation project “KINDEMIC: Words and Worlds of Migrant Female Workers” by Jing Y.
News from Feb 11, 2022
The “Social Worlds” team is looking for interested people to join our working group to translate the book “KINDEMIC: Words and Worlds of Migrant Female Workers” by artist and writer Jing Y. from Chinese to German!
The team of the research project “Social Worlds: China’s cities as spaces of worldmaking” is now seeking interested parties to collectively translate the book on a regular basis every other Friday. Originally published in Chinese in April 2021, the book will be translated and published as a German version by the end of 2022 with the support of the Böll Stiftung. The translation process will make the voices of Migrant Female Worker heard and give a glimpse into their social world(s) in China’s cities.
The book contains seven essays from four different Migrant Female Workers, and four essays from invited individuals responding to these essays. It also includes illustrations created by the authors. “Kindemic”, a word coined from “kinship” and “pandemic”, evokes the book’s focus on the vicissitudes of family relationships before and during the eruption of the COVID-19 pandemic in China. The inception, formation, production, and publishing of a book during this time can be seen as an educational intervention, in which the books contributors and Jing Y. grow together under mixed roles of tutor-students and personal friends.
If you are interested, please send an e-mail to antonie.angerer[at]uni-wuerzburg.de and Ms. Antonie Angerer will provide further information or answer any questions you might have.
The first meeting of the working group will be the 4th of March.
